Concern
Cellulite is most commonly found on women. This is probably because the connective tissues in the layer of fat below the skin are arranged vertically in women, allowing the fat cells to protrude, giving a dimpled appearance. In men the connetive tissue has a crisscross structure, which may explain why men are less likely to have cellulite.
Hormonal changes and age are likely to part in the development of cellulite. Oestrogen, insulin, noradrenaline, thyroid hormones and prolactin are all thought to influence the development of cellulite.
Although cellulite is more prevalent in people who have excess weight, although slim people can have it too. It’s more likely to appear after the age of 25, but can develop before then.
